Prenatal Wellness & Birth Preparation

This is the first class in our popular, two-part series of Childbirth Education Classes. You may choose to only participate in one part, or register for both parts at a reduced price.

Congratulations on your pregnancy! What an exciting time in your life, your partners’ life, and the lives of family and friends surrounding you! We can only imagine the love and support you are receiving from everyone you know…along with the countless pieces of advice. “Don’t eat too much”, “Eat whatever you want”, “Don’t have too many ultrasounds”, “Make sure you eat 6 dates a day”, “Stand on your head to reduce heartburn”…we’ve heard it all! And, frankly, it can be so overwhelming! With so many differing opinions, and advice coming from many different decades, it’s impossible to know what’s right for you and your baby. Let us help.

This workshop will inform you of way to have a positive and healthy pregnancy, while preparing for the birth that you want. We’ll chat about nutrition, pregnancy screening and tests, preparing for parenthood, possible complications and warning signs, signs of labour, and the nitty gritty details of your upcoming birth; from hospital birth to home birth, medicated to unmedicated, interventions, complications, advocating for your rights and departing from your plan when necessary.

Workshop Outline:

Pregnancy Awareness
A woman’s physical, mental and emotional health can greatly impact her pregnancy and birth process. Maintaining or improving health can have a significant impact on both mother and baby. With a proper health plan in place, you may be able to avoid potential complications and interventions throughout your pregnancy. This unit also focuses on the importance of connecting with your baby throughout your pregnancy, and becoming in tune with your body.

Thoughtful Decisions, Birth Choices & Goals
Making thoughtful decisions can help parents feel empowered, ensure their wishes and goals are respected and bring them a sense of peace and satisfaction with the birth experience. This unit is devoted to educating parents on ways they can be involved in the decision-making process and work with their care providers to achieve the birth they desire.

Labour & Birth Education
Understanding the birth process and the normal variations that can occur during labour and birth, will help ease any fears or anxiety parents may harbour and will encourage a positive experience. Our theory is that by educating mothers to be aware of the normal hormonal and physical changes taking place in her body, she will be empowered to work with her body in bringing forth her baby.

Comfort Measures
Labour is often in intense and lengthy process that without the proper understanding, support, and comfort tools, can easily overwhelm a woman. There are many natural ways to find comfort, which we will explore in this unit. A woman who has identified and practiced her most useful comfort tools will likely have a far easier time utilizing and benefiting from them during her labour.

….and so much more!

Refreshments and light snacks will be provided.

Cost: $75.00 +hst
