Amanda is the founder and director of The Nesting Instinct. Her journey into the wonderful world of birth has been exciting and fast paced from the moment she decided to follow her dream of becoming a doula. Working with expectant families, she quickly recognized the need for an all-embracing community of professionals to serve growing families exclusively. The Waterloo region was lacking community for families, and Amanda possessed the drive and passion to quickly change that.
Amanda continues to learn and grow, all while expanding The Nesting Instinct and all it has to offer.
As a Labour & Postpartum Doula, Doula Trainer, Mentor, Childbirth Educator & Placenta Specialist, Amanda is passionate about empowering families to have positive and beautiful birthing experiences. Her wide range of personal experience with infertility, adoption, hospital birth, home birth, newborn illness and nursing a baby after breast surgery give her a unique advantage in supporting women in a variety of situations. As someone who can relate to the trials and tribulations of many struggles throughout your childbearing year, she can offer gentle guidance, support and encouragement through almost any challenge you may be facing.
Amanda specializes in overnight postpartum support for families with multiples, and labour support for surrogate families and intended parents.

Without a doubt, Katie has found her calling.

Cindy completed her bachelor of Arts Degree specializing in Linguistic Anthropology at Trent University in Peterborough, and continued on in her education at Georgian College in Orillia to become a Communicative Disorders Assistant. From there she started work at KidsAbility in Waterloo in the Preschool Autism Services Department. Cindy loved working with the children there, and continued to do so, until after the birth of her second child when she decided to stay at home and focus on her own family. She now has 4 beautiful children.
During her pregnancies, and journey into motherhood, Cindy found that her greatest passions were highlighted, and realized that she wants to be working with women through their journeys into motherhood. She started her training as a Labour Doula in January of 2012, and hasn’t missed a beat since her journey began. Along her path as a student doula, Cindy has studied the importance of the placenta to mom and babe, even after birth, the dangers of C-sections, how to offer mom natural pain relief during labour and how to have a natural, fear-free birth through hypnobirthing. She attended her first birth in June 2012, which only confirmed that birth work is where Cindy belongs.
Kathy began her studies as a doula in 2014, and within her first year has had the privilege of serving several families, and found a tremendous passion for all things birth. Now, fully certified, with rave reviews from her previous clients, Kathy continues along this amazing journey with a passion for helping women succeed.
Kathy has been considered an amazing asset to each and every family who has invited her to be a part of their birth team. Her desire to help each family connect with their own birth choices has allowed her the opportunity to utilize the pregnancy and birth knowledge that she has been gathering.
One of Kathy’s most rewarding days as a doula was welcoming a baby into the world with one of her Doula colleagues who she studied with. To share together all they had learned and what it was really like to be called a part of “The Birth Team”; this was truly on honor and blessing, and only affirmed Kathy’s desire and passion for birth work.
Kathy resides in beautiful Wellesley, ON with her husband Ron, their two sons and two dogs.

She has worked extensively within this broad field to create a balance for children and families at all stages. She currently works in a local library system as a children’s program assistant.
As a young woman Sandra felt an intrinsic passion for naturally nurturing and empowering women. Recognizing that pregnancy is a state of health and education is key to understanding how to have a full, personal birth experience. Her greatest joy has been found in being a mother to her 3 daughters who are now in their 20′s. After starting her Doula training in January 2015 Amy feels she has finally found her place in the world of prenatal care, as a labour doula. Amy’s presence offers a passionate and energetic, yet calming feeling to each of her clients’ unique experiences. Amy feels strongly for sanctioning a strong sense of self-worth in expectant mothers and expanding families, while assisting them in building confidence in their new roles.
From a young age, Amy has always found herself being drawn to infants and pregnant women in a caring and nurturing way. It is clearer now, than ever, as she completes her first year as a doula that, she has finally found her calling in life. She has worn many hats over the years while raising her young family; from working as a chef, owning her own cleaning business and now running a successful home based daycare.
Amy lives a busy life in New Hamburg with her husband, two children and many four legged furry friends. However, she manages to stay very active within our practice and with our clients, by acting as one of the hosts of our Prenatal Circle (a free community group for expectant moms), as well as our local breastfeeding tent found at many community festivals and events throughout the Waterloo Region.
Melissa has a Bachelor of Business Operations and Project Management, and spent many years working traditional 9-5 jobs, but was left feeling like she wasn’t fulfilling her passion to help others. In 2014, her sister invited her to be present at the birth of her youngest nephew, where she also had a Doula as part of her support network. She was inspired by the empowerment her sister was given to birth on her own terms, and knew in her heart that this was a path she was meant to follow.
In 2016, a long-time friend of Melissa’s asked her to be part of her birth team, and Melissa knew it was time to seek out training to pursue a career in birth services.
Melissa has taken both the Labour and Postpartum Doula training provided by The Nesting Instinct. She helps run Prenatal and Postpartum classes, and holds a monthly Women’s Circle at The Nesting Instinct. She is currently working on completing the Holistic Herbal Studies Program at The Living Earth School, and hopes to enroll in Reiki training in the near future.
