Amanda is the founder and director of The Nesting Instinct, as well as DOULASinc., a Canada-wide doula training organization. Her journey into the wonderful world of birth has been exciting and fast paced from the moment she decided to follow her dream of becoming a doula. Working with expectant families, she quickly recognized the need for an all-embracing community of professionals to serve growing families exclusively. The Waterloo region was lacking community for families, and Amanda possessed the drive and passion to quickly change that. Amanda continues to learn and grow, all while expanding The Nesting Instinct and all it has to offer.
As a Labour & Postpartum Doula, Doula Trainer, Mentor, Childbirth Educator & Placenta Specialist, Amanda is passionate about empowering families to have positive and beautiful birthing experiences. Her wide range of personal experience with infertility, adoption, hospital birth, home birth, C-section (of twins!), newborn illness and nursing a baby after breast surgery give her a unique advantage in supporting women in a variety of situations. As someone who can relate to the trials and tribulations of many struggles throughout your childbearing year, she can offer gentle guidance, support and encouragement through almost any challenge you may be facing.
Amanda lives in the small town of Plattsville with her (blended) family of 7. She also works as volunteer firefighter, and has extensive Emergency Medical Response training.
Katie is the Assistant Director at The Nesting Instinct. She holds a degree in psychology and sociology, and a graduate degree in education. After the difficult and premature birth of her daughter in 2012, Katie pursued several career avenues, without ever feeling truly fulfilled. With a few big life changes, including a move back to her home town of Kitchener, Katie decided to explore her passion for perinatal and postpartum health and began her journey with us at The Nesting Instinct. Without a doubt, Katie has found her calling. Katie’s huge heart and compassionate nature have proven to be invaluable strengths in her work as a doula. Her comforting presence is sure to bring peace and strength to any expecting family who would invite her to be a part of their birth team.
Katie is passionate about women and wants to help expecting mothers and parents-to-be feel comfortable and confident in their abilities. Through support, communication and trust, we will accomplish wonderful outcomes. Katie will empower your decision making and treat you with kindness and respect; your voice will be heard! Let’s create lasting memories and a loving foundation upon which you will grow your family.
Sandra has 30 plus years working with parents and their children as an Early Childhood Educator and Educational Assistant. Including, yet not limited to, being a Day Care Supervisor in Toronto, facilitating a parent participating preschool, having a successful in home childcare and working as an EA. She has worked extensively within this broad field to create a balance for children and families at all stages. She currently works in a local library system as a children’s program assistant.
As a young woman Sandra felt an intrinsic passion for naturally nurturing and empowering women. Recognizing that pregnancy is a state of health and education is key to understanding how to have a full, personal birth experience. Her greatest joy has been found in being a mother to her 3 daughters who are now in their 20′s. She recently came full circle returning to her passion for nurturing women by choosing to become a Doula.
Sandra has completed her in class training with the Nesting Instinct, has attended several births and is working towards her full certification.
After starting her Doula training in January 2015 Amy feels she has finally found her place in the world of prenatal care, as a labour doula. Amy’s presence offers a passionate and energetic, yet calming feeling to each of her clients’ unique experiences. Amy feels strongly for sanctioning a strong sense of self-worth in expectant mothers and expanding families, while assisting them in building confidence in their new roles.
From a young age, Amy has always found herself being drawn to infants and pregnant women in a caring and nurturing way. It is clearer now, than ever, as she completes her first year as a doula that, she has finally found her calling in life. She has worn many hats over the years while raising her young family; from working as a chef, owning her own cleaning business and now running a successful home based daycare.
Amy lives a busy life in New Hamburg with her husband, two children and many four legged furry friends. However, she manages to stay very active within our practice and with our clients, by acting as one of the hosts of our Prenatal Circle (a free community group for expectant moms), as well as our local breastfeeding tent found at many community festivals and events throughout the Waterloo Region.
Melissa has a Bachelor of Business Operations and Project Management, and spent many years working traditional 9-5 jobs, but was left feeling like she wasn’t fulfilling her passion to help others. In 2014, her sister invited her to be present at the birth of her youngest nephew, where she also had a Doula as part of her support network. She was inspired by the empowerment her sister was given to birth on her own terms, and knew in her heart that this was a path she was meant to follow.
In 2016, a long-time friend of Melissa’s asked her to be part of her birth team, and Melissa knew it was time to seek out training to pursue a career in birth services. Melissa has taken both the Labour and Postpartum Doula training provided by The Nesting Instinct. She helps run Prenatal and Postpartum classes, and holds a monthly Women’s Circle at The Nesting Instinct.
Melissa is currently working on completing the Holistic Herbal Studies Program at The Living Earth School, and hopes to enroll in Reiki training in the near future.
After the transformative experience of giving birth to her daughter, Victoria knew that she wanted to help educate women about labour and delivery, and connect with expectant mothers in an authentic and impactful way. Enter doula work.
Completing doula training was a natural evolution of Victoria’s life-long love of learning, which includes three University degrees, and a fascination with the human body, which includes nearly a decade of teaching as a certified yoga practitioner, and a world bronze medal in figure skating!
Victoria loves to make heartfelt connections, and help others enjoy the experience of learning more about their bodies through movement and breath. As a doula, she’s honored to participate in the arrival of life’s most precious gift: family.
Victoria, her husband, and their daughter reside in Waterloo, where Victoria works at UW, and teaches yoga at Moksha Yoga Waterloo.

Although she wasn’t yet sure how she would support pregnant women through their childbirth journeys, she knew it was her calling. Helping women feel safe, supported and confident through their own labour experiences is something near and dear to her heart. Having had two very different pregnancies and deliveries of her own, she understands the value of being well informed and cared for during the entire childbirth process and beyond into the postpartum period.

Christine feels her own experience with subsequent pregnancies after loss can help families navigate through similar experiences, while finding unexpected joy.
