I received a lovely surprise in the mail the other day… A box full of goodies to prepare the big day….EMBRYO TRANSFER!! (Thank you, Sally!) It included a slew of pregnancy tests, a few things to pamper myself, some morning sickness remedies, super tasty looking prenatal vitamins, and of course, pickles!!!! Seriously, it made my day. Time is flying by, and we’re almost ready to start the countdown. We are all so excited! Last month, the egg donor flew down from out west, for her egg retrieval, and we had the chance to get everyone together for dinner. It was so fabulous; we kept joking that we were the modern family out for dinner. We all had such a great time, and connected really well. I feel so blessed to be a part of this kick-ass-baby-making-team! (how many people does it take to make a baby? 1 egg donor and her family, 1 surrogate and her family, and 2 very loving, intended parents) Amazingly, the egg donor produced 26 eggs!! So, we currently have 6 healthy embryos ready for transfer, with the rest of the eggs frozen! We are only planning to transfer one the first time, because with some new testing available, the success rates are very high. So, if all goes as planned, we will have one, healthy little bean growing in utero very soon. We’re all so excited, and anxiously awaiting the go ahead from the fertility clinic. In the meantime, I am spending a weekend at The Birth and Beyond Conference, soaking up a wealth of knowledge and wisdom from some pretty inspirational women. I couldn’t be happier!
P.S. Many of you asked me how I decided to become a surrogate, and how I began the process. Quite honestly, it is something I first heard about as a teenager, and was instantly hooked. I stored it in the back of my mind until I knew I was done having my own babies, and then took the leap! After I connected with Sally, the owner of my surrogacy agency, it was a smooth and simple process. She is an open book, and guided me through each and every question and concern I had. If you are thinking about it, please do it. In this agency alone, there are 30 couples waiting on a surrogate. It is absolutely heartbreaking! If you would like more information, or would like to pick my brain about it, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. Amanda@nestinginstinctkw.com
