Hiring Amanda and Erin as doulas to help us with the birth of our first born was one of our first decision as parents and we were really happy with the outcome. My husband and I don’t have any family in the area and Amanda and Erin were the next best thing that happened to us!  They provided unconditional family-like support  before, during and after birth. They were extremely helpful and knowledgeable during labour. They made sure that we were comfortable and taken care of during the child birth process. They gave us the pros and cons of our decisions and helped us choose the right option. We got a lot of help from them with breastfeeding as well and they were always reachable when needed. We would definitely recommend their services to anyone embarking on their journey of parenthood!

Thank you Erin and Amanda for being there for us!

As a second-time mom I got a lot questions from my friends and family along the lines of: “Why do you need a Doula? You’ve done this before, you know what to expect, don’t you?” Yes, this is true, I have done this before, but to me that was all the more reason to seek the support of a Doula!

As a mother who had already experienced a positive homebirth with my first child, I knew that my best chances for repeating that amazing experience was to have a strong, supportive, nurturing woman by my side for the birth of my second child. Someone who understood what I was going through, who I could trust, and who believed in me and my body’s ability to bring my baby in to the world — naturally.

On the evening of June 21st, 6 days before my due date, I went to bed feeling a bit more tired and achy than usual. I had some minor cramping that would come and go but it was nothing painful or regular enough to even pay attention to — I just chalked it up to the hot humid weather we were experiencing! I tossed and turned all night until 5 am the following morning when I got up to use the bathroom. That’s when I realized that I was actually having contractions and they started getting intense. I called Amanda to let her know that something was happening. I didn’t really believe that this was it, but she was able to tell just by the sound of my voice that I was in true labour and she was at my house within the hour!

Amanda arrived just as the midwife was checking my progress and we were all surprised to hear that I was fully dilated and ready to push! The events seemed a bit chaotic, but not for one minute did I feel nervous, anxious or afraid. Knowing that I had Amanda on my team totally put my mind at ease.

She took turns with my husband attending to our 2 year old daughter who had just awoken from all the excitement. When the back labour was starting to get unbearable Amanda suggested position changes and counter pressure to help me deal with the pain. And in-between she gave back rubs, cool cloths and encouraging words.

Our son “H” was born at 7:46 am, 45 minutes after Amanda arrived, and I couldn’t believe that at 5 am that morning I was still unsure if I was in labour!

But Amanda’s support didn’t stop there. Her post-partum visits were especially helpful, providing practical help with caring for 2 children, doing housework, cooking a meal, and offering emotional support. She also gave breastfeeding advice and assistance for which I am truly grateful.

I would definitely recommend Amanda to anyone who is looking for a hardworking, passionate, and caring Doula. Thank you for supporting our family during this amazing experience!

My name is Savi, I had a six year old girl already when I delivered my baby boy in September 2012. With no family members around, my husband and I found it very difficult to get some rest with the new born, our daughter and the chores.

Amanda is very knowledgeable about postpartum care and eased our minds by answering all our questions and advising us on the techniques for bathing, feeding, burping the baby. Moreover, she was a great help with the light chores and thanks to her professionalism, we could entrust her our new born for 2 hrs everyday so we could get some rest. Other than that, Amanda also took quality time to spend with our 6 year old daughter when she was complaining that we were not giving her enough time and, and helped us to calm her concerns and become comfortable in her new role as big sister. Having a doula like Amanda during those days was the best decision we could ever take to ease us into adjusting to the changes a baby brings along.
We absolutely loved our experience with having a doula for the birth of our first baby. Amanda was so helpful and supportive throughout our pregnancy, always answering questions we had. Anytime we were looking for resources, she would offer her insight and help us make the best decision that was right for us.

Amanda’s support and guidance was amazing during our labour.  My husband followed her lead in helping to support me.  I listened to and leaned on Amanda and we were successful in having a drug free delivery.  Her presence in the room was minimal – she allowed us to have our moments during the labour and knew when to step in and when she should stay in the side-lines.  After our daughter was born, she had to be taken to the special care nursery as she wasn’t breathing right.  If it wasn’t for Amanda, I would have been left alone for 2 hours, while my husband was with our daughter. Even with a horrible migraine, Amanda sat with me and offered words of encouragement and allowed me to cry as I was terrified something was horribly wrong with our daughter.  Once we were home, Amanda ‘s post-partum care was amazing.  Not having family support and knowing nothing about breastfeeding, Amanda saw the early signs of low supply and helped us to get in to see the Lactation Consultant. Through her own experience and struggles with breastfeeding, she was able to help me and give me emotional support that I could relate to.  If it wasn’t for her, I would have quit breastfeeding.  Now, my daughter and I have a great breastfeeding relationship.  I was able to survive the first 6 weeks post-partum knowing that Amanda would be coming to help every Tuesday and Thursday.  From cleaning to cooking, grocery shopping and helping me decorate for Christmas as well as accompanying me to a Le Leche League meeting, Amanda was supportive and willing to do whatever task I asked of her.   We definitely made the right choice in hiring Amanda as our doula and we can’t wait to use her services again when we have our next baby!
When I found out I was pregnant with baby #3, I knew I wanted to have a natural home birth. Having Amanda as our birth doula helped me reach my goal.

Amanda was very supportive from the beginning.  She listened to me and didn’t push any particular birth ideas she had but offered a lot of different option and suggestions.  She was professional, caring and a wonderful support for both my husband and me before, during and after the birth.  Her calm reassuring voice helped me through some of the hardest contractions.    She was there when we needed her but knew when to step back and give us space when we needed it.

My husband was worried that a doula would take over his role during the birth but that wasn’t the case at all.  He appreciated the help and support just as much as I did.

Days later, after the birth, my midwife commented on how wonderful she thought Amanda was and was happy to work with her.

I’ve very happy with our decision of having Amanda at our birth.  Her help, support and encouragement  was amazing and I got the home birth I had always wanted.

Hiring our doula, Erin, was the best birth decision we made. What a blessing.
Cindy, thank you for being there for me. I will always remember you, each year, on our son’s birthday. Thank you for your kindness.
